In the ocean of new consumer and compact cameras, the big players are trying to make some improvements on the SLR class also.
Interesting is that even the most compact photocameras are more and more equipped with some advanced functions, like image stabilization, raw file, slow noice at higher ISO values etc. Another good thing is that there are more manufacturers now at this market, which should lead to better quality and lower prices. Of course, they still use known tricks as more megapixels, bigger zoom and similar to draw in more newcommers into their brand.
but, compact cameras are not something that I am very interested in. I was following the dSLR market more closely and to be honest, some great things are happening there.
Canon EF 70-200 mm F4L IS USM lens - one of the greatest zooms ever will receive stabilized version. What else to say The important thing is the price: if new lens is close to Canon EF 70-200 mm F2.8L USM lens, than I would prefer to buy the 2.8L one. IS is a great thing, and most probably - it will allow you to shoot in lower light conditions than 2.8 version. But, when it comes to freezing the action, bigger apperture is irreplaceable. The 4L IS still has other advantages - it will be lighter and smaller, probably cheaper. I hope that Canon will surprise us all with really cheap price, but we will see. The other good thing is that now it should be easy to find cheaper non-IS version.
Canon EF 50 mm F1.2L USM lens - defocus maniacs, enjoy! Knowing the optical quality of 50mm F1.4, I can say from now - this lens is going to be the killer. The expected price is not very good, but at least you have a choice at 50mm from F1.8, to F1.2. This is the widest aperture in current canon lenses available. Cudos for Canon.
Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi - I really did not expect Canon to show new dSLR in lower end. The 350D / Digital rebel was released not so long ago. However, this is understandable, knowing that there are now cheaper and (somewhat) better cameras on the market with some great new options like sensor stabilization and other.
Sigma
Sigma has announced the new Sigma SD14. I really am looking forward to see how their Foveon sensor is improved.
